Missouri has some excellent camping opportunities. Essentially, the camping opportunities are divided by a number of state and federal agencies.
The federal government has camping opportunities that can be divided into two main categories. One is Forest Service acreage primarily in Mark Twain National Forest. The other division of land is that around lakes and other water areas that is managed by the Army Corps of Engineers.
State managed lands are run by the Missouri Department of Conservation and by Missouri State Parks. Mostly, the camping opportunities on Missouri Department of Conservation land is very primitive. There is very little in the way of improved services.
In Missouri State Parks, generally speaking, there are more facilities and amenities. Some parks have campgrounds with showers and even laundry facilities.
